Overview

The crusher/grinder is the first stage in an EPS scrap recovery system. It takes production waste, including off-cuts from cutting lines, rejected blocks, defective molded parts, and edge trims, and reduces them into small, uniform granules that can be fed back into the production process through a mixing unit.

Designed to handle the full scrap output of a production line, the crusher/grinder ensures that no usable material goes to waste. The result is lower raw material costs, reduced waste disposal requirements, and a more sustainable production cycle.

How It Works

EPS scrap is fed into the machine’s intake, either manually or via a conveyor or pneumatic feed from the cutting area. Internal rotating blades break down the material into progressively smaller pieces. The crushed material passes through an interchangeable sieve at the machine’s discharge, which controls the maximum granule size. Sieves are available with apertures up to 6 mm, and can be swapped to produce different output sizes depending on the downstream requirements.

The granules produced are suitable for blending with virgin pre-expanded beads via a mixing unit, then feeding the mixture into a block form machine for re-molding.

Noise and Workplace Considerations

EPS grinding generates considerable noise. This machine features an acoustically insulated housing that significantly reduces sound levels in the working environment, making it suitable for installation within the production hall rather than requiring a separate enclosure or remote location.

The insulated body also helps contain dust and small particles generated during the grinding process, contributing to a cleaner and safer working area.

Capacity and Integration

The crusher/grinder is sized to process the full scrap output of cutting lines or multiple shape molding machines, ensuring that it does not become a bottleneck in production. It integrates with pneumatic transfer systems to move the processed granules to a storage hopper or directly to a mixing unit upstream of the block form machine.

For plants with particularly high scrap volumes or multiple cutting lines, capacity can be matched to the specific throughput requirements during the plant engineering phase.
