Key Features
- Achieves densities unreachable by standard pre-expanders
- PLC calculates exact material quantity for each expansion phase
- Pre-loading silo with integrated electronic scale
- Vacuum-fed material transfer for consistent flow
- Maintains uniform bead quality at ultra-low densities
Purpose
Standard EPS pre-expanders can reliably produce densities down to approximately 12 kg/m³. For applications requiring lighter material, below 12 kg/m³ (0.75 lb/ft³), a multi expansion unit is necessary.
The multi expansion unit provides a controlled second expansion stage that further reduces bead density while maintaining uniform quality throughout the batch.
How It Works
The system consists of three primary components:
Pre-loading silo: Positioned above the expansion chamber, this silo incorporates an electronic scale system. It measures the precise quantity of previously expanded material needed for the second expansion phase.
PLC system: The controller calculates the required mass of EPS beads (in kilograms or pounds) for the next expansion pass. It controls expansion within a fixed chamber volume, ensuring accuracy and repeatability between batches.
Vacuum fan: Transfers EPS bead material from the silo into the expansion chamber using vacuum, maintaining a consistent and controlled flow throughout the process.
Applications
Low-density EPS is used in applications where minimum weight is critical, including lightweight void fill, acoustic insulation, and specialized packaging where cushioning performance must be achieved with very low material density.
